College Campuses as a Free Resource

Wether you are an enrolled/registered student or not, there are vast amounts of information and resources available on most college campuses. You might also like to know that there is no one walking around the campus asking to see student identification cards or anything. Nobody will think twice about you being in the library, cafeteria, student resource center or most of the other areas designated for helping students. There are a few exceptions however, for example, you cannot check out books or sign into the computers in the libraries or labs.

Some of the things people may not consider using as a resource in their DIY Education are law libraries, art studios, book exchange, tutoring center and some other areas that will be discussed in more detail in this section of DIY Education Online. There are also several events that offer great opportunities to learn some very interesting stuff and also to add things like lectures from well know leaders of industry or education to your rapidly growing resume.

This section will discuss, in great detail, the massive amounts of resources available for students who know how to use them (and unregistered students as well). The organization of this section will focus on sharing the largest possible sample of resources available on college campuses.

Top Picks

Tutoring Centers
These are always great places to be. There is usually always a crowd in the tutoring center because it is full of people trying to help people understand the most complicated of information.

Campus Libraries
Campus libraries are some of the best libraries (and law libraries) in the world. There are more resources at most university libraries than there are at your municipal library branches. This is due to the requirements for so many classes, including biology slides, anatomy models, etc...

Lectures & Seminars
Every week there are great lectures and seminars that are going around all around you. The great thing is that these are often times free to attend and can really spruce up a resume that is lacking extracurricular excellence.

College and University Resource Reviews

Tutoring/Learning Centers are a Great Place To Get Qualified Help on Many Subjects.
The tutoring and/or learning center in your local college campuses are a great place to get qualified help from professional educators and other students who excel in the area of study that you are specifically interested in. Sometimes you may have to sign up on a list or write your plan your visits for days when the specific tutors you are trying to meet are available. This center, whichever it may be for you usually offer some reference sheets you are free to take with, tables to work at and computers as well. If you are not shy and know exactly what you are having troubles with the center is the place to be. It is also a great place to meet people with similar interests if the center allows you to converse during tutoring.

Seminars and Lecturers Add to Your Resume.
There are many college and university campuses in my area and in most areas around the country (metropolitan areas at least). With this being the case it is a great idea to look into and keep updates on the seminars and guest speakers currently scheduled through colleges and universities near you. These types of activities can really give your resume a nice boost; especially if you have several listed that seem to represent a relevant topic to the position applied for.

There are so many campuses near me that keeping up with all the seminars calls for constant web searches that bring up new results very frequently (at least every other weekday; averaged). Right now, an example of the kind of events offered is what will help you most to find the kinds of lectures and seminars you are interested in adding to your resume. Below are some screenshots (be sure to click on the stars to see the different examples) of lectures and seminar schedules/descriptions that would look good on a resume and are free to attend.
