The Who and The Why
As you may have read on the home page of this website, I am a full-time student at a public university here in Oregon, as well as, a father to an amazing six year old son. I am married to an incredible woman who is probably more responsible for this website than she even suspects (probably more of all my accomplishments than she suspects).
I have been through several brands of formal education and have completed them successfully. The problem arises when it is time to put that education to use. I can never find a job after spending several thousands of dollars to secure a spot in the world.
My solution to this problem is to not rely solely on one education, or even one form of education. Instead of looking for your future career in a college catalog, why not find it in your state’s licensing and certification office or on their website? There are so many different types of certifications and licenses a person can earn, of these, there are plenty that need little or no formal education or accredited class time.
This website was designed to track and follow my progress of exploring as many of these Do-It-Yourself Education options as is possible in the time I have and the money I can afford to spare, which at this point is little to none (Donate Here). In any case, I look forward to this journey and hope you all will follow me in it.

Skills Presented
My journey has brought me many skills that I want to share with you all.
My entire educational experience has revolved around the idea that I need to find what I am good at and focus my energy and studies in that area so that I can find my spot in the world. After having at one point, found that I was an exceptional cook and I truly enjoyed being in the kitchen; more so, even, than I enjoy eating. I had also found a way to express my creativity that did not involve pencils and paper. This was great until I finished culinary school and went on to find work. To my dismay, the job market was in disarray, though there were jobs they did not pay enough to keep the lights on and my family covered with health insurance. Even though I feel I gained some serious skills in fast-pace on your feet thinking positions, it was on to the next field.
During my time in culinary school, I also found that I had a knack for numbers. I also enjoy talking to people and making things happen, so I got into real estate, real estate appraisal to be exact. This was really interesting; I learned a lot about the housing market…just in time for it to crash, entirely, in 2008. Again, it was on to the next field.
After having decided not to pursue either of my prior plans any further, I started working in lumber mills and warehouses where I could be a machine operator, thinking that these jobs would be around for a while and the advancement opportunities would be plentiful. What a mistake that was; I was making barely over minimum wage and had to wait years to get a fifty cent raise. I had certifications in many areas of those industries, forklifts, log-pickers, reach trucks, etc. The jobs just had a low pay ceiling and I really am the type of person who needs to keep progressing towards something. As you could guess, I went on to the next field.
I finally decided to start going to school to become a Medical Doctor of Neuroradiology. Now, this is a 12 year process at the minimum and I will be taking little steps to get there. For instance, I just got my Associate of Science and my Associate of Art- Oregon Transfer diplomas back in July of this year. My next step is to get my Bachelors in Science of Nuclear Medicine Technologies before applying for 100 medical schools. Through this part of my journey I have acquired many necessary skills and qualifications including Medical Terminology, Grant Writing, Technical and Research Paper Writing, Public and Small Group Communication. Mainly though, I have been focused on Anatomy and Physiology, Math and Chemistry.
The Stuff You Benefit From
The thing that stuck out through all of this is the fact that I have been very strapped for cash the entire time and have still been able to pull off amazing grades (maybe only amazing to me because I thought I never would be successful in an academic setting). With this came a lot of opportunity to cut corners on my budget; the internet is an amazing thing in this aspect. I hope to share all of the tricks and tips I have learned along the way as well as lend my personal expertise on any subject that you may find pertinent. The point of this website is to demonstrate to everyone that an education does not need to cost an arm and a leg, nor does it need to be a lifelong choice to get an education in a certain area. You have options, let me show you how to explore them and take advantage the best way I know how.
