Study Guides

Throughout many years of cramming information into our cranial cavities it becomes apparent rather quickly that just reading something or listening to somebody tell you something is not quite enough to absorb the knowledge. Many options exist (and are most likely covered somewhere on this website), but one of the most helpful things that one can access to help themselves retain pertinent information is a good study guide.

There are study guides in the form of interactive websites, social networking sights for students and educators, college websites (often have teachers pages with great study guides), sights that offer lecture videos or tutorial videos. There are even topic specific study programs which generally have several forms of study guides. All of the above are great resources, but they must be sorted through.

Study guides are usually very specific to the particular information you need at that time. In this day and age, there are so many kinds of study guides and places to find them that it can be frustrating to find the ones that work for you. This section is going to cover many different types of study guides for many different subjects and hopefully you can get a good idea of where to find the best guides for your needs.

Study Guide Resource Reviews

Koofers - Social Networking for Educational Purposes.
This site offers a vast network of information that one can sort through and read, watch, hear or study. There are professor, school and class rating for most schools. There are also user-uploaded tests, study guides, flash cards and much more. This is one of our favorite websites covered thus far. They offer such a user-friendly, intuitive yet surprisingly resourceful interface.

We have yet to see a website that contains this massive amount of study materials and examples, and all for free! There are hundreds of thousands of essays, tens of thousands of videos, tens of thousands of study guides. It also just recently added a "career center" which we are curious to see how well it works. The idea is amazing, but as stated before, this website is far too underrated... so go give it a visit if you find the time. (Koofers)

Virtual SlideBox - Virtual Microscopy for Digital Slides
Virtual SlideBox is a simple, but, incredibly useful tool for anyone studying biology (especially Anatomy and Physiology). Put on by the good folks a the University of Iowa, this one of the most recommended resources as a main source of studying material for lab practicals pertaining to tissues (usually in the beginning of the series). The idea behind this type of website is one that should be used more cooperatively for the sake of compiling larger amounts of information from users and other schools.

Overall, this is a great project that has been around for several years and has not failed to provide the necessary slides to an inquisitive student yet. If the pictures in the book aren't enough to make it so you clearly understand what you are seeing, then this resource is for you. (Virtual SlideBox)
